Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)
CDM is one of the flexibility mechanisms set forth in the Kyoto protocol of the United Nations. It pledges to lower greenhouse gas emissions by 2020.
The guidelines of CDM focus on developing and emerging countries. Carbon emission reductions (CER) achieved in these countries can be traded to industrialized countries and used to balance the overall greenhouse gas emission.
One way to achieve this reduction is to convert methane (CH4) into carbon dioxide (CO2) because methane is 21 times more critical as greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.
